RULE OF THIRD
Is applied by aligning a subject with the guide lines and their intersection points, placing the horizon on the top or bottom line, or allowing linear features in the image to flow from section to section. Using rule of third the means that the subject isn't centered in the image, which is how many new photographers frame their shots. Instead, the main focal point is a bit off to one side.
