Changing Landscapes
Statement of Intent
I aim to produce a portfolio of my work demonstrating my ideas and developments. The theme will be around landscapes and at the end of my exam prep time , I will choose my best images which will be easily shown.
For my initial research I will start by looking at landscape photography. I have two photographers in mind that I want to look at. Thomas Heaton work is very inspiring and I want to take similar photos as he has beautiful pictures of the sunset with different lighting. The next photographer I want to look at is Irene Suchocki who also take pictures of landscape with deep depth of fields and very soft lighting. This links to my work as I will be going to London to take my own photos so this is good inspiration for me.
When I first chose this theme I thought of beaches , buildings and architecture. After thinking and planning more thoroughly I went into more detail such as sunsets, bridges and skylines. This theme has quite a variety of pictures you can take.
To show my progression through out my work I will be going into local town of Manchester and taking photos. I will develop these images on Photoshop and gain different ideas and inspiration to advance my work to a better standard. I have lots of ideas going through my head which will lead me in the right direction to gaining a good piece of work.
I would like to experiment a wide range of techniques and skills. I will be using DSLR camera which I take most of my pictures on , but I would like to try different type of effects and other type of lens. I will also push myself to be more creative with Photoshop to develop my images. I will also experiment with using apertures and depth of fields.
I have a course of a year to create a portfolio of work. I aim to complete my research in the first couple weeks this will allow me to show my progression through time of developing. I will also have 10 hours for my practical exam where I will put all my final photos.
As my project progresses I will compare my work to photographers and furthermore find a way to get it to good standard. I will make sure I always reflect on my work and get advice off my teachers and peer on how to get my work to high standard. I am determined to push my self and work hard. After the production of my final piece I will do an evaluation on the project as whole, I will reflect on what went well and what I would do differently.

Anglesey , Wales
Content -
In this picture the main focus is the light house because its in the centre of the picture so it immediately catches the viewers attentions. One half of the image is grass and rocks this is mainly in the foreground of the picture and also looks slightly blurred to make the light house stand out more. The second half of the the picture is the sea which is also show a contrast between the blue sea and green grass. This is a quite a new picture and the colour brings out the texture of the landscape. This image in my opinion was taken in Anglesey connects well with the photos I have taken. The main content for this image is landscape and there are no people or modern structure that I can see which make the lighthouse more dramatic.
Composition-
In my opinion I think the aperture is using a deep depth of field because the rocks, grass and sea are all in focus as well as the light house, which is quite sharp and is the center of attention. In the foreground there is a pathway leading to the lighthouse which has very clear leading line. The lighting is tinge with a pink glow so it gives us the impression that the picture was taken around the evening time. The images also shows the contrast between the land and sea , this image has been taken very carefully and focused as you can see the fine details in the picture. This image has very strong leading line as you can see the horizon very clearly. In the foreground you can see the rocks which are in the 2/3 of the land and the sea. In the middle ground you can see the main focus is the lighthouse and the photographer has used rule of thirds as the lighthouse is in 1/3 of the picture. Also in 1/3 of the picture is the sky and cloud which shows contrast between the sky and sea.

This image was taken by Russel Turner in Anglesey wales which is an fantastic place to capture landscapes images. Russel has managed to go on a trip to to Anglesey to take amazing photos of landscape in such a wonderful evening.
Connection-
I think this connects to are work really well because we went to Anglesey to take pictures of the landscapes and scenery so this image links quite well to are work. Also gives me an idea of how I want take my pictures and what settings I want to use. When I take my own photos in Anglesey I will try to make sure I do not get distraction in my photos such as people and cars so that I get the full impact of landscape. In my opinion the theme behind this picture is to show how wonderful nature is and how peaceful the countryside can be.
Comment-
In my opinion this image is very relaxing and peaceful but also isolated at the same time. The photographer has chosen a good location to capture the best landscape picture. The photographer has took a clear and focused picture in my opinion by using the correct setting and technique.

Winter landscape photography
I grabbed the opportunity to take some winter landscape photos when it snowed one morning. I really liked the contrast between the colour of the flowers and the white of the snow.
Photoshop tutorial
In the lesson today I struggled using Photoshop so I watched tutorials on YouTube which helped me out a lot and was very useful for me. This tutorial helped me with the picture color and helped change the levels and brightness to make it look more better.
Photoshop 1
In this project I have chosen to go with making my pictures black and white on Photoshop as I think this the the most effective tool and make my picture look more efficient and set a dark tone.
Photoshop 2
Photoshop 3
Best images
In this image I have used the tool brush to fill the colour green into the leaves to make it look more effective and stand out more.

Linking paragraph
In the winter we went to Anglesey where we took photos of the natural landscape. I used a DSLR camera and the setting was on manual so I was able to adjust the white balance and aperture which gave me a nice soft lighting. We went to different beaches and tried to capture different lighting effects. For example some of the picture I captured showed the soft lighting you get at that time of year, on the Sunday I was on a beach when the sun broke through the clouds and I managed to capture the soft rays. However on the Saturday I was able to capture the setting of the sun over the sea. So what I learnt about the location in photography is that I could really develop my camera skills as I had to constantly change my settings depending on what exposure I needed.
In contrast to London in the summer it is a urban landscape and is full of lots of big building and is a lot more busier. I was able to capture more of a harsh lighting as the sun was out which I had to adjust my exposure depending on the lighting this helped develop my skills in photography .
